پنجاه سال انجمن ریاضی آمریکا
در این سخنرانی، جورج دی. بِرکوف گذشته، حال و آیندۀ ریاضیات آمریکا و وقایع تأثیرگذار بر آن را همزمان با پنجاه سالگی انجمن ریاضی آمریکا در سال ١٩٣٨بیان و نقشۀ راه پیشرفت ریاضیات در آمریکا را ترسیم می کند و برای بسیاری از فعالیت های دانشگاهی در حوزۀ ریاضی راهکار ارائه می دهد. اکنون که در پنجاه سالگی تأسیس انجمن ریاضی ایران قرار داریم، فرصتی بی همتا است تا انجمن ریاضی ایران نیز نقشۀ راه پیشبرد و پیشرفت ریاضیات کشور را به جامعۀ علمی ایران پیشنهاد کند. رهنمودهای این ترجمه، شاید راهگشای تدوین چنین پیشنهادی باشد.

هشدار به جامعۀ ریاضی ایران و علاقه مندان به توسعۀ پایدار کشور
در حالی که در سال های اخیر میوه های شیرین نهال مسابقات ریاضی دانش آموزی انجمن ریاضی ایران که از سال ١٣۶٢در دانشگاه صنعتی اصفهان کاشته شد، به جهان ریاضیات ارائه می شوند، باز هم با افت شدید ریاضی رو به رو هستیم. این افت، دلایل و عوامل متعددی دارد که در این مقاله، برخی از آنها را بیان می کنیم. بخشی از این مقاله، موضوع سخنرانی نویسندۀ دوم در همایش آموزش ریاضی و چالش های پیش رو است که در پاییز سال 1396 در دانشگاه یزد برگزار شد

واژگان مشترک منطق قدیم و منطق جدید و برخی از تعریف های تاریخی مفاهیم منطقی
هر حوزه از دانش بشری، واژگانی دارد که در طول تاریخ پیدایش و تحول آن، به وجود آمده اند و بدون آشنایی با آن واژگان، فهم موضوع آن حوزه از دانش، ناممکن است. در این مقاله، نخست به اختصار به معرفی علم منطق از دورۀ باستان تاکنون می پردازیم و سپس به واژگان مشترک منطق قدیم و جدید و تعریف های تاریخی بعضی از اصطلاحات منطقی اشاره می کنیم. برای این منظور، اصطلاحاتی را از آثار مهم منطقی چند دانشمند برجستۀ اعصار متفاوت برگزیده ایم و تعریف آنها را از آثارشان نقل کرده ایم. همچنین به لحاظ اصطلاح شناختی، به کوشش هایی در معادل سازیِ برخی واژه ها ی تخصصی منطق اشاره ای می کنیم

ریاضیات در تقابل با فلسفه و علوم طبیعی
در این مقاله، برخی از تقابل های مشهور بین ریاضیدانان و فیلسوفان را به لحاظ تاریخی مرور می کنیم. پرسش این است که آیا ریاضیدانان باید نظریات فیلسوفان را در نقد آثار خود یا برخی شاخه های ریاضیات، جدی بگیرند؟ البته این شامل انتقادهای گاه به گاه برخی از اعضای جامعۀ ریاضی با انگیزه های بنیادی و فلسفی به همکاران خود نیز می شود. به علاوه، پرسشی مشابه در مورد پیوند ریاضیات و علوم تجربی مطرح است: آیا اگر اصلی در ریاضیات، علی رغم داشتن شواهد درون ریاضیاتی، منجر به نتیجه ای غیرقابل باور دربارۀ جهان خارج شود، باید آن را کنار گذاشت؟ از جملۀ این چالش های تاریخی، بحث هایی بوده که بر سر پذیرش اصل انتخاب یا جایگاه برهان های متّکی بر محاسبات رایانه ای میان ریاضیدانان درگرفته است. بحث هایی را که اخیراً بر سر موضوعاتی چون عمیق بودن یا سطحی بودن و سودمند بودن یا نبودنِ بخش هایی از ریاضیات می شود، می توان در همین راستا ارزیابی کرد

تاریخچۀ بی نهایت کوچکها و بی نهایت بزرگها در حساب دیفرانسیل و انتگرال
دو مفهوم بی نهایت کوچک و بی نهایت بزرگ در حساب دیفرانسیل و انتگرال اهمیت اساسی دارند و در طول تاریخ به صورت های گوناگونی ظاهر شده اند. آنها هم از جنبۀ فنی و هم از جنبۀ مفهومی برای حساب دیفرانسیل و انتگرال اهمیت بنیادی داشته اند؛ یعنی هم به منزلۀ ابزارهای اصلی حساب دیفرانسیل و انتگرال و هم به منزلۀ شالوده های بنیادی آن بوده اند. در این مقاله، برای این جنبه های ب ینهای ت کوچک ها و بی نهایت بزرگ ها مثال هایی ذکر خواهیم کرد که در تاریخ حسابدیفرانسیل و انتگرال طی قرن های هفدهم تا بیستم ظاهر شده اند.

صد سال با مرکزساز عضوهای یک گروه
مطالعۀ تاریخ ریاضی علاوه بر ادای دین نسبت به پیشگامان و تلاشگران این حوزۀ علمی، نحوۀ تکامل موضوعات ریاضی را نیز آشکار می کند. به ویژه ریاضی خوانان جوان طی مطالعۀ تاریخ ریاضی با جریان فکری حاکم بر فرآیند کشف قضیه های ریاضی آشنا می شوند و خود می توانند مستقلا به بازآفرینی روند حل مسائل و یادگیری عمیق ریاضی بپردازند. در این مقاله، تاریخچه ای از تعریف و به کارگیریِ مرکزساز عضوهای گروه ها را در شناسایی ساختار انواع گروه ها ارائه می دهیم. به ویژه به مهم ترین نقش آفرینی های مرکزساز عضوها در نظریه گروه ها نظیر طبقه بندی گروه های سادۀ متناهی اشاره می کنیم

آشنایی با معادلات دیفرانسیل تأخیری
در این مقاله، دستگاه های دینامیکی متناظر با معادلات دیفرانسیل تأخیری را معرفی و برخی نتایج آشنا و مهم دربارۀ آنها را بیان می کنیم. همچنین به برخی از پیچیدگی هایی که در اثر وجود تأخیر در معادلات بروز پیدا می کنند، اشاره می کنیم. همانند معادلات دیفرانسیل عادی، با مطالعۀ دستگاه های خطی و دستگاه های خطی سازی شده حول نقاط تعادل، شناخت خوبی نسبت به معادلات دیفرانسیل تأخیری و پایداری نقاط تعادل می توان کسب کرد. هرچند روش ها شبیه روش هایی هستند که در مورد معادلات دیفرانسیل عادی به کار می رود، بررسی معادلات خطی تأخیری چالش های ویژۀ خود را دارد. ماهیت فضای جواب نیز نسبت به معادلات دیفرانسیل عادی متفاوت است و جواب ها در فضای تابعی بی نهایت بعدی واقع می شوند. در این راستا به انشعاب ها در دستگاه های تأخیری نیز اشاره می کنیم

کلاه هایی برای فکر کردن: شعبده بازی ریاضیدانان با کلاه ها
در این مقاله، مسئلۀ بسیار زیبای بازی کلاه ها را معرفی و شرایطی را که منجر به نسخه های گوناگون این بازی می شوند، مطرح می کنیم. هدف ما بررسی و تحلیل دو نسخۀ شناخته شده از بازی کلاه ها است. برای تحلیل نسخۀ اولِ بازی کلاه ها، استراتژی های متفاوتی را بررسی می کنیم و با روشی خلاقانه نشان می دهیم که یافتن بهترین استراتژی در این بازی به حوزۀ نظریۀ کدگذاری وابسته است. برای درک بهتر نسخۀ دوم بازی کلاه ها، حالت خاصی از آن را بررسی و استراتژی یافتن بهترین نتیجه را در حالت کلی مطرح می کنیم
