Abstract
This paper is a personal perspective of some early history of abstract Fourier analysis‎. ‎Topics visited include factorization of L1 functions‎, ‎Lp-conjecture‎, ‎and theorems about Fourier transforms‎. ‎The mathematicians who appear in the story include‎: ‎Raphaël Salem‎, ‎Paul J‎. ‎Cohen‎, ‎Antoni Zygmund‎, ‎Walter Rudin‎, ‎Jean Dieudonné‎, ‎Edwin Hewitt‎, ‎N‎. ‎Th‎. ‎Varopoulos‎, ‎Philip C‎. ‎Curtis‎, ‎Jr.‎, ‎and Alessandro Figà-Talamanca.
