Abstract
David Eugene Smith was one of the most remarkable figures in the history and education of mathematics in the twentieth century. It is impossible to cover his activities in one article because their scope and impact were so diverse and extensive. These included founding the Society for the History of Science, founding the journal Scripta Mathematica, and serving as president of the American Mathematical Union. In this article, we will highlight some of these activities and focus on his interest in Iranians, especially Khayyam.
